We are recruiting lead and supporting actors for the short film ＜The End of Love＞. Synopsis: In a wilderness where love has come to an end, our protagonist J is exhausted by recurring thirst. She seeks the answer to a thirst that cannot be quenched no matter how much she drinks each day in a fantastical place called an “oasis.” Thus, every day she sets out in search of an oasis. One day, J welcomes another morning with only a little water left. This journey is somewhat different. She encounters a yellow flower and a nameless woman who dances a beautiful yet melancholic dance, and the little water she has left is taken from her. When J, having collapsed from thirst, opens her eyes, an old woman dressed like a madwoman is looking down at her. She introduces herself as “Don Quixote” and calls J “Sancho.” J thinks she is crazy and ignores her, but Don Quixote gives J her own water. Don Quixote says she knows where the oasis is, so J follows her. Through songs and conversations, the two gradually grow closer. Then they confront a man named Freeman, who worships gold as a god, and defeat him in battle. Don Quixote leaves J to take revenge on Freeman, and J sets out once again alone in search of the oasis. Not long after parting from Don Quixote, anger rises in J’s heart, and tears begin to pour down at the same time. A kind girl, whose origins are unknown, comforts her. Over the tears received in the girl’s hand, the subtitle “Oasis” appears. ＜Roles＞ J (female, teens to early 20s) She finds it difficult to get up every morning. A deep sense of emptiness has settled around her heart. J believes that the emptiness that cannot be resolved by drinking water can be found in the fantastical existence known as an oasis. Colorless and odorless, depressed, and expressionless. J is a plainly attractive young woman in her 20s who could plausibly be mistaken for a teenager. Don Quixote (female, mid-to-late 50s) Don Quixote thought that life, people, love, parting, aging, death—everything—was futile. The day she felt the futility of all things, she was sad. By relying on her imagination, she was able to overcome that sense of emptiness. As she survives in the wilderness alongside her imagination, Don Quixote finds life enjoyable. A cheerful middle-aged woman driven by madness, who believes herself to be Don Quixote. She has abundant gray hair and a sturdy build. Freeman (male, early 40s) A man who worships gold and guards a golden altar. To him, gold is everything. His life is prosperous, but in fact he is lonely.
