About

Hello. My name is Jeon Yu-bin, and I am living each day diligently as I pursue my dream of becoming an actor. I do not think of the word “acting” simply as a profession or a dream. To me, acting is a process of understanding people, another way of looking at life, and something that allows me to face myself with the greatest honesty. That is why, rather than seeking quick results, I continue preparing each day to become an actor who builds a strong foundation, even if it takes a long time. Since I was young, I have been someone who observed people closely. The look in someone’s eyes while they were speaking, the expression on their face after they stopped talking, and the unique habits that emerged more when they were sad than when they were happy naturally caught my attention. At the time, I simply thought, “It’s fun watching people,” but as I came to understand acting, I realized something: the observation I had practiced for so long was the very beginning of acting. I began seriously dreaming of becoming an actor because moments when my heart was moved not by “a person standing onstage,” but by “a character in a story,” gradually accumulated. Briefly living someone else’s life and conveying that character’s emotions to an audience—if, through that process, an audience member is comforted, reflects on themselves, or genuinely empathizes for even a single moment, I feel that alone makes it deeply worthwhile. That is why I do not want to be an actor who merely appears glamorous; I want to be an actor who can portray characters that live and breathe like real people. At present, I am preparing not only in acting but also in dance. Training to express emotions through my body has greatly helped my acting. By learning physically how emotions can be conveyed without words and how the flow of emotion can move before dialogue, I feel that the range of my expression has expanded. In particular, I am learning how to convey emotions in front of the camera through restrained movements rather than exaggerated gestures. Dance is another language for me, and a tool that allows me to express my emotions honestly. I do not consider myself someone with quick, immediately noticeable talent. Instead, I see myself as diligent and committed to building steadily. Rather than becoming an actor who stands out all at once, I want to become one whose reliability grows over time. That is why I try not to approach even a single audition or profile casually. When an audition does not go well, instead of denying myself, I reflect on why I fell short, record what I learn, and prepare for the next opportunity. I believe that as my failures accumulate, my acting is gradually becoming stronger as well. During practice, I always ask myself, “Why?” Why did this character make this choice? Why did they say this line at this moment? Where did the emotion begin? Rather than simply imitating emotions, I try to understand the character’s entire life. In doing so, I sometimes discover parts that resemble my own life, and at other times find moments when I can understand someone despite their having lived a completely different life. The process is difficult, but that is what makes acting even more enjoyable. I also believe that one’s attitude on set is just as important as skill. I am still a very inexperienced newcomer, but for that very reason, I try to listen more carefully and work more diligently. The smaller the role, the greater my sense of responsibility. My goal is to become an actor who does not disrupt the atmosphere on set and whom others want to work with. Knowing that acting is not something done alone, I try never to forget to respect the hard work of every staff member and fellow actor. One of my strengths is that I am honest with my emotions. Rather than acting from emotions I have forced myself to create, I try to base my performance on emotions that genuinely arise within me. As a result, rehearsals sometimes take a long time, but once I find the emotion, it does not easily waver. In front of the camera, I want to perform not for the sake of “showing” something, but through a performance that truly exists. My goal is to act in a way where the eyes speak before the words, and even breathing and silence carry meaning. I do not want to confine myself to a specific image. I want to take on every kind of challenge, whether the role is bright or dark, ordinary or dramatic. I believe there are still far more emotions and lives I have yet to experience. That is why I am drawn less to a genre or the size of a role than to how truthful the character is. Even if the appearance is brief, the opportunity to portray a character with a palpable story would be a great learning experience for me. Since choosing the dream of becoming an actor, I have begun living my life more diligently. I no longer let emotions pass carelessly, I record moments from everyday life, and I listen more closely to people’s stories. I do not want to live for acting; I want to become an actor whose lived life becomes part of their acting. I believe every one of my experiences will one day give me greater depth when I encounter a character. I am still an aspiring actor with far more shortcomings than strengths, but that is precisely why I am ready to grow. I will not be an actor who simply waits for someone to choose me; I will become one who prepares and proves myself. I will give my best in every production, on every set, and in every role, working toward the day when I can hear people say, “When that actor is in it, I know it’s worth watching.” If you remember my name after reading this, I will already be deeply grateful. And I sincerely hope that someday I can greet you again through my acting, on set or in a production. If I am given an opportunity, I will repay that trust with an attitude and performance worthy of your expectations. Thank you. My name is Jeon Yu-bin, and I dream of becoming an actor.
