Role of the mutant

In the short film ＜Denial＞, I played Park Ha-jin, a detective investigating the death of a newborn. At first, Park suspects the surrogate mother, Lee Ji-woo, but as the investigation progresses, I sought to portray a character who becomes conflicted between the truth and reality. The most significant lesson I took from this project was the importance of “acting that truly exists within the situation.” During filming, I strongly felt that I was acting while thinking about my next line rather than responding naturally to my scene partner’s words and actions, and I became even more aware of this when watching the edited version. I also regret not expressing the character’s inner world and complex emotions in greater depth, and not making more varied use of my gaze and movements within the limited space. Through this project, I learned that an actor’s role is not simply to deliver lines, but to respond vividly and authentically to their scene partner within the situation.
